Qualification Target
This course aims at endowing students with the necessary econometric knowledge and tools for undergoing empirical research on policy evaluation and big data analysis.
Contents

The course covers a series of topics in microeconometrics, policy evaluation and statistical learning. The course aims at introducing students to a range of advanced econometric methods as well as developing programming skills in R. The topics covered are:

  1. Treatment effect: identification
  2. Logit/probit
  3. Propensity score weighting and treatment effect estimation
  4. Regression Discontinuity and Dif-in-Dif
  5. Instrumental variables
  6. Kernel regressions and introduction to nonparametrics
  7. Dimension reduction: Lasso and Ridge regressions
  8. Cross validation and bootstrap
  9. Bagging and boosting
  10. Trees & forests
  11. Causal Machine Learning
  12. Advanced classification: Support Vector Machines and Neural Networks
